Your support is critical to fulfilling our mission. We are forever grateful to have you as a member of the Pride and Less Prejudice family, and we are so excited to use this second annual auction as a springboard for LGBTQ+ materials desperately needed in our schools. Again, we cannot thank you enough for your continued support and passion for our mission.
Every year, the American Library Association (ALA) publishes a list of the “10 Ten Most Challenged Books” of the year. The 2019 list included 8 books that included LGBTQ content, marking the fourth consecutive year that books with LGBTQ characters and themes were amongst those challenged.
Pride and Less Prejudice believes that all LGBTQ-inclusive books, such as “And Tango Makes Three” by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson and “I am Jazz” by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings, which made the ALA’s list in 2019, should be included in all classrooms. Books with LGBTQ characters and themes are essential for creating inclusive classroom environments where students feel safe and valued.
Our Banned Together Virtual Auction takes place during the American Library Association’s Annual Banned Books Week, which celebrates the freedom to read.
